MAJOR ADVANTAGES...
NITRILE NBR RUBBER - In addition to its resistance to petroleum oils and aromatic hydrocarbons, NBR is highly resistant to mineral oils, vegetable oils, and many acids.NITRILE RUBBER is often used in transformer oil, however a specific formulation is used for that application. A commercial NITRILE compound will not withstand transformer oil. NITRILE also has good elongation properties as well as adequate resilience, tensile and compression set. NITRILE RUBBER may be referred to as NBR rubber or Buna N rubber. HNBR rubber is hydrogenated nitrile it is not very common and typically is a custom order. XNBR carboxylated Nitrile is not very common and typically is a custom order. Most NITRILE compounds can withstand -30 to 220°F operating temperature.
NITRILE RUBBER can be produced in a durometer range of 40 to 90 Shore A. NITRILE can be molded into parts, extruded in profiles or tubing or calendered into sheet goods.
LIMITATIONS...
Because of its cost, this elastomer is not usually recommended for applications where oil resistance is not a major problem. Where oil resistance is required, the cost is more than justifiable. NITRILE RUBBER is generally attacked by ozone, ketones, esters, aldehydes, chlorinated and nitro hydrocarbons.
